What happened to SGX Nifty?
SGX Nifty was a Nifty 50 futures contract listed on the Singapore Exchange. Overseas investors used it to trade Indian equities without coming onshore, and Indian traders watched it each morning as a hint of where the market would open.
In July 2023 the contract moved to NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) in GIFT City, Gujarat, and became GIFT Nifty. Under the NSE IX–SGX Connect, members of the Singapore exchange route their orders to NSE IX, so the same investors kept access. Liquidity followed, and GIFT Nifty is now the reference pre-market indicator for the Nifty 50.
